The hotel is floating (docked at Qi River / moored permanently within a reservoir). The boat has 12 decks, of which 10 are passenger-accessible and 7 with cabins (835 passenger staterooms). Staterooms as amenities and decorations are planned to be very similar to those of RMS Titanic. The custom-made premium furniture will be made of high-quality woods (mahogany, walnut, sycamore, satinwood). All staterooms have a wardrobe, dresser, seating area, steward call buttons.

For the nuts and bolts crowd, that also means Titanic had a bigger draft than Icon. The amount of hull that descends below the waterline was greater on the former (34 feet) than the latter (30 feet). This is a function of an ocean liner’s increased stability while frequently crossing rougher open seas versus a cruise ship’s ability to reach multiple shallower harbors while traversing calmer waters overall. The most expensive is substantially higher – $10,864 for a suite on the same cruise in March. In September 2018, Titanic II seemed to experience a miraculous revival. The Supreme Court of Western Australia ruled in 2017 that Citic was obliged to pay nearly $150m in unpaid royalties, which apparently left enough in the pot to bring Palmer’s passion project back to life. The “authentic Titanic experience” includes the option to buy first, second, and third-class tickets and having the exact number of passengers and crew on board as the original ship. The above is not an indication that an ocean liner is inherently any safer than a cruise ship, only that a liner is less likely to list (or heel) from side to side in windy weather than a comparable cruise ship, at least technically.

Titanic II Design Plans

Some relatives of passengers who died on RMS Titanic condemned the project to build a replica ship as insensitive. Blue Star Line was flooded with inquiries from potential customers, some offering up to GBP 640,000 to book Titanic 2's inaugural cruise. Palmer did not announce a shipyard, but said the nine-deck vessel would weigh 56,000 gross tons, slightly more than Titanic’s 46,329 gross tons, with a length of 882 feet, one foot shy of Titanic. The new ship will accommodate the same number of guests, 2,435, with the main difference being she will have sufficient lifeboats to carry all passengers and crew.

Surprisingly, the 3rd class is attracting attention globally, being one of the most searched. There was an idea the ship to provide costumes (typical for each class cabins) complementary to all passengers. Palmer's original plan was to set sail in 2016, but the build, which was supposed to begin in China in late 2013, never got off the ground due to financial disputes. Design work and wave testing on a model of the ocean liner reportedly started during fall 2018. Palmer originally announced his plans to build a replica of the doomed original in 2012, with the hope of having it set sail by 2016. The new Titanic, which will cost about $500 million to build, could hold 2,400 passengers and 900 crew members.

On October 16, 2018, Clive Palmer (current Chairman of the Paris-based "Blue Star Line" company) appointed his nephew Clive Mensink (former director of Queensland Nickel, Townsville QLD Australia) as project's Director and company's CEO. He is responsible for staff recruitment, crew training and contractor negotiations. Company's headquarter office (in Paris France) is scheduled for opening in March 2019. Because of the unseasonably warm conditions, a high number of icebergs drifted off from the Arctic closer to the route of the ship, which was believed to be safe from such dangers. According to CNN Travel, Palmer suspended his plans three years after announcing the Titanic 2 due to an unspecified financial dispute with the Chinese government, which is heavily involved with the project.

The European headquarters of Blue Star Line will likely be in Paris, Palmer announced Monday, citing Britain's decision to leave the European Union. From a total of 835 cabins, there will be 383 in first class, 201 in second class, and 251 in third class. The bridge of the new ship will be an exact replica of Titanic’s bridge. Third-class passengers will dine on stew and mashed potatoes at communal tables in a dining room reminiscent of the original ship.

According to Blue Line, the ship will have 18 fully enclosed, motor driven lifeboats, each with a capacity of up to 250 people.
